Developing & Launching Coolhead.tech

During my early stages of preparation for product management(PM), I tried to learn things mostly through hands-on experience. While I was keen on building something myself, I faced difficulties in finding the right pain-point (or starting point) that can be solved by the product I would build.  That was the time when I tried to think of ideas that can improve my preparation

What does Coolhead Solve?

Product Management preparation consists of so many aspects Product execution, Product Sense, Guesstimates etc. While preparing, I was able to learn most of these concepts myself except Root Cause Analysis(RCA) questions. They were mostly like stories in various websites. When aspirants read them, they  feel it is easy and can be learnt, but in reality there is no thinking involved while preparing that way for these questions. Even worse, when they try to replicate the learning in mock interviews, it is difficult to crack the RCA questions. I found this as an opportunity to develop a product that can help fellow PM aspirants to learn RCAs in a better way and train them to think while solving.

Minimum Viable Product

I created a webapp(hosted on wordpress) and started with a simple user flow where an aspirant can visit and and take the RCA quiz. Using a contact form 7 and conditional logic fields, I scripted the first RCA and uploaded it in July. The homepage and the quiz page of the of the Coolhead webapp looked like this:

Product Roadmap : What's Next for Coolhead?

Currently, I’m working on the next major upgrade for Coolhead; integration of AI in the website such that students can take mock interviews for product execution and get feedback for the same. Unlike the current RCA’s(which works on rule-based logic), this would be more interactive (similar to generative AI). Aspirants can take timed interviews vocally (using speech-to-text feature). Apart from RCA’s, Guesstimates are also part of the upcoming launches. Coolhead also mentions resource sharing hub and blogs, which will be launched soon in the upcoming month. I’m working on inviting few product managers to write guest blogs for Coolhead.tech where aspirants can get valuable information and share their ideas as well. Planning to complete this by September 2024.

The Impact

Coolhead currently has 2 beginner level RCA’s and has just crossed the MVP stage. Most of the traffic is qcquired organically through LinkedIn, Product Management groups across Facebook & WhatsApp. The following statistics were observed as of September 2024

  •  Around 300+ students have played the RCA quiz
  • The average session time per quiz lasted around 2.5 minutes.
  • The objective of thinking while learning to solve RCAs was identified among the aspirants who took the RCA quiz which enabled students to focus entirely on deducing the possible root cause.

This web-app was created to for my learning and to solely benefit fellow PM aspirants and add-value to their preparation positively.
